One of the mistakes many new affiliate marketers make when starting out is to sell anything and everything. You need to make sure the product you’re about to present to your audience is a product which will be valuable and helpful to your target market.
We used LinkShare for quite a bit. Rakuten Advertising. It’s funny, these CPA networks, a lot of times, get swallowed up, they get purchased and then they move into different ecosystems. Rakuten is what LinkShare used to be. You can always tell. They have advertisers and publisher space. Now, with CPA networks, you have to basically be approved on a per offer basis. So if you want to promote Audibly, you have to be approved for Audible. If you want to promote some weight-loss products, you have to be approved by the weight loss product.

Affiliate Marketing is my thing and thanks for sharing these tips. Yes anyone from day #1 can begin with it especially if they can get some eyeballs on their content.
I am not an influencer according to today’s meaning. I have less than 4000 followers on Instagram. I think Tiktok is annoying and ruining the meaning of good, quality content. But I have a blog and I thoroughly enjoy Pinteresting. And I like teaching people things I’ve learned and sharing about products I love. Yes, I would probably make more money if I had tens of thousands of followers or more traffic to my website and I’m sure I’ll get there one day but, baby steps. A lot of companies have programs. This is certainly not limited to the outdoor and hunting industries. Think beyond that if you want to open more doors to making money. Virtually every industry has brands that have affiliate programs. Outdoor, beauty, cooking, home & garden, travel, fitness, CBD, fashion, parenting/kid stuff, photography, etc. This is important. Not all individual brands host their own affiliate programs on their site. Many go through third parties to handle all the technical stuff like commissions. Some of those third parties include AvantLink, Commission Junction, Share-A-Sale, VigLink, Impact and many more. For example, you can go to the Bass Pro/Cabelas website to sign up for their program but it’ll direct you to sign up through Impact (a third party). Same with Sitka and Yeti. They’ll direct you to sign up through AvantLink. GoPro uses Ascend.
While driving traffic is something that you’ll need to do continuously, the biggest struggle is when you’re just starting out and you have no traffic and have no idea where to start.

Shopify has an affiliate program. I’ve been using Shopify for the past 3 years and I absolutely love what it does for online businesses. So I sign up for the affiliate program and promote it during my speaking gigs, in blog posts (like this one) and I also share it with my network of people who are into starting their own eCommerce businesses. In return, Shopify gives me $58 for each person that signs up as a result of my referral. The people that I promote Shopify to don’t have to pay a higher price. In fact, by virtue of me being an affiliate – I am actually empowered to give special promotions and discounts to people who sign up via my link.
To capitalize on this, create a page on your blog where you list out all your recommended products and/or services that are relevant to your target audience.
