owntheyard.com is a website built by affiliate marketing expert Spencer Haws. Launched in September 2018, the site now earns in excess of $2500 per month. Admittedly, Spencer spent a lot of money outsourcing much of the work, but owntheyard.com really does showcase what an affiliate website can generate and it’s a great example of affiliate marketing for beginners to draw inspiration from.
It happens in the case of Amazon but not in Shareasale or CJ. For them, you just have one affiliate link and people from anywhere can buy some products and you will get a commission for it.

Affiliate marketing is great and all (especially when you’ve just got a hand on how to do affiliate marketing), but always remember - the audience is key.
This is just a sneak peek of some affiliate marketing programs for beginners. There are hundreds of others which can be useful for you as a beginner. Also, maybe you are into a specific niche and want to learn about something like credit card affiliate programs. When starting you will need to find an affiliate network or merchant to do business with. For beginners, the former is usually a better solution as networks are easier to work with. To start, you will only need some personal or business information and a bank account. In turn, you will need to receive an affiliate link for you to get started.
Brands collaborate with various affiliates who then promote their products or services. When promotions by an affiliate lead to a sale, the brand pays them a commission.
The commissions are much higher than physical products which is why I like promoting them so much.
The course starts out by working together on choosing a niche and a name for you!
Affiliate Marketing uses tracking cookies and a pixel placed on the brand’s site to track and measure their partners’ marketing activity. It can lead to a highly reliable ROI calculation for the brand.
As I mentioned just before, each affiliate program has its own specifications on how they pay you and what constitutes as a commission; as for how you actually make the money, it depends; however, these are the most popular payment plans for affiliate marketers: Pay per sale – this is the most popular form, which basically means that when a visitor who comes from your site buys the product/service, you get paid a percentage of that sale (the percentage differs based on each affiliate program); and with recurring affiliate products, you’ll make a monthly commission as long as that person stays a customer (or for a set period of time)Pay per click – as the name suggests, this means that you get paid for the traffic you direct to the merchant’s website – great if you get a lot of traffic alreadyPay per lead – this method requires that you direct people to the merchants’ site and you get paid a commission when the visitor takes a certain action (for example, completing a form or starting a free trial)
