While I am not a lawyer and you should seek one out for proper legal guidance, the FTC has clearly indicated that the hashtag #ad should be used in your post – and it should be “easily noticed.”
In case they don’t have an affiliate program, don’t worry. You’ll still have other products on your list that you can make commissions with.
Whether the consumer knows that they are part of an affiliate marketing system or not is mostly up to the affiliate.
Take ThirstyAffiliates, for example. This plugin helps you add affiliate links to your site and then organize and manage them. You can also include corresponding images, and track your links’ statistics. Pretty Links offers many of the same features, but focuses on optimizing your affiliate links. Both plugins have premium versions offering even more functionality. There are also plenty of alternative options to choose from.
So, let’s turn our way defining affiliate marketing in an easy and understandable way.
Why look at a niche affiliate platform? Because usually these have many of the biggest and most trusted names in the niche. Products that are already popular and trusted by customers. There are big names that only scuba divers are familiar with. Same with rock climbers, mountaineering fanatics, or ultralight backpackers. When all the top brands of gear in those niches come together and offer 8, 10, or even 12% then it’s worth it to find out where the top brands in your niche like to manage their affiliate programs.
We used LinkShare for quite a bit. Rakuten Advertising. It’s funny, these CPA networks, a lot of times, get swallowed up, they get purchased and then they move into different ecosystems. Rakuten is what LinkShare used to be. You can always tell. They have advertisers and publisher space. Now, with CPA networks, you have to basically be approved on a per offer basis. So if you want to promote Audibly, you have to be approved for Audible. If you want to promote some weight-loss products, you have to be approved by the weight loss product.
