Side note: I made my first ever Etsy purchase while writing this – the screenshot above is a hint.
As I mentioned just before, each affiliate program has its own specifications on how they pay you and what constitutes as a commission; as for how you actually make the money, it depends; however, these are the most popular payment plans for affiliate marketers: Pay per sale – this is the most popular form, which basically means that when a visitor who comes from your site buys the product/service, you get paid a percentage of that sale (the percentage differs based on each affiliate program); and with recurring affiliate products, you’ll make a monthly commission as long as that person stays a customer (or for a set period of time)Pay per click – as the name suggests, this means that you get paid for the traffic you direct to the merchant’s website – great if you get a lot of traffic alreadyPay per lead – this method requires that you direct people to the merchants’ site and you get paid a commission when the visitor takes a certain action (for example, completing a form or starting a free trial)
.
Networks manage the technical part of merchants’ affiliate programs. They track purchases and make sure commissions are paid out correctly.
Many people start their affiliate marketing with Amazon Associates program that allows you to link to Amazon products and earn a small commission from anything that customer purchases on Amazon.
The cookie is then stored for a period of 30 to 90 days (in some cases 10 years also) as fixed by your affiliate program or network to give your referred customers time to decide if they wish to purchase the affiliate product.
Because that’s where you add value. You earn a commission in exchange for being an influencer and helping people make smarter decisions, and you use your blog and the Internet to systemize that process, providing valuable advice to thousands of people.
Think, they came again after two days and bought what they wanted to buy the other day. Nope, what you’re thinking will not happen. You’re not going to get the commission if the purchase is made after more than 24 hours since that user entered Amazon clicking your affiliate link. Also, the cookie gets wiped out right after someone completed the purchase through your link.
With blogging, you build an audience interested in your expertise surrounding a specific type of content. By creating consistent and credible content, your audience will deem you as a credible source for advice and recommendations. Therefore, you increase the chances that your audience will trust the products or services you use and promote through your affiliate links.
Trust also serves another common sense purpose in affiliate marketing: it makes it easier to make the sale. Most people are savvy enough now that they won’t buy from a questionable website. Most of you reading this know how to spot someone who has done actual research on a topic and someone who spent the minimum amount of effort re-writing the product copy off of Amazon.
You’ve got a couple options (really you have a ton, but these are my recommended options). You can learn how to start a blog on your own (like I said, it’s not hard) and take a class on affiliate marketing, or you can join a community like Wealthy Affiliate to help you get started step by step.
But if you’re willing to do all that, you can certainly make it, no matter what your background is. Here, we will be covering all the bases to jumpstart your affiliate marketing business. But more specifically, we will be discussing how to start affiliate marketing with Amazon for beginners.
Then, you can very easily host a Google hangout that is completely free, to stream your webinar live to your audience.
The affiliate marketing industry is in my opinion a hidden treasure that will go mainstream in the near future. The flexibility, unlimited earning potential, and freedom provided make it a very attractive option for those who wish to make money online.
I made my first affiliate sales with less than 500 followers and not that many views. It was because I was sharing products I actually loved and was happy to be using. I never promote things I don’t like or don’t feel comfortable with because being real is what works with affiliate marketing.
After all, making money with affiliate marketing isn’t as simple as throwing up a couple of links and watching the commissions roll in. It takes careful planning, well-written content, and consistent work.
We’ve already mentioned how important it is to have a great product and an outstanding customer service. These are the two factors that strengthen customer loyalty, help build a customer base and, eventually, lead to word-of-mouth references. These references, in turn, will bring new customers you can later turn into affiliates.
